This week for I interviewed some fellow change members, for a more authentic grapevine story.
Jack Froggatt was immersed in caffeine behind the coffee machine, serving up coffees and watching marshmallows be swallowed from the stand. He commented on the candle-lit atmosphere, created by Alex Farncomb, an apparent producer of fine lighting arrangements.
Mark Kelsey was on the stand last night; speaking what Jack referred to as a message of “simple points for a successful life”. Nicholi Warner, was also grateful for Mark’s word, which “are always so practical, and full of truth.”
Mark talked on the idea of an aligned lifestyle in career and kingdom goals. “The two lines of bringing the kingdom and focusing on your career and personal life coincide. They come into line and create a track”, Jack said. This is one of those items that we can get caught up on as young adults. We question, am I focusing too much on what I want? Or, is this what God wants for me? What we can come to know is that we can bring glory to God through all of our lives, in dedicating all areas to God.
William Wilberforce, as portrayed in the movie “Amazing Grace”, confronts his struggle with whether he should use his oratorical talents for preaching or as a politician. He wonders whether the two can coincide. He realises though, that he can use the skills God has given him to glorify God actively as an abolitionist, advocating for the slaves and their freedom. Certainly this is an example where Wilberforce’s two passions were aligned and used to glorify God.
Chloe Amies said the concept of the track helped emphasise the need to run our lives in equal measure. “It’s easy to lose focus on spending that dedicated time in the Word when we’re out looking for a new career or developing relationships”, she pointed out. “Waiting for time off to dive into quiet time isn’t going to appear unless we make it a priority, and our personal track won’t run smoothly if we’re not resting in God’s refuge.” I think she said it right when we need to both prioritise our time and also rest in God.
And time and time again, it’s a question we might ask ourselves.
So, how are you tracking?
