// LOVE IS PEOPLE: BEN MYATT-BOCARRO

LOVE IS PEOPLE is all about profiling members of our community who are achieving something with the gifts they've been given. Asking them questions about their dreams, passions, day to day life and walk with God. Check out this great interview with Ben Myatt-Bocarro!

1. Tell us a bit about yourself (age, where you live, study etc)

Hey, I’m Ben Myatt-Bocarro, though most people know me as Benny Myatt. However, having a double last name always leaves room for some variations such as the Alex Lee inspired ‘Ben Mycarbro’. I’m a 20 year old Commerce student at Macquarie University and reside in the humble suburb of Mona Vale. My business, Cloud9 Vintage Sportswear, brings you the best in vintage sports Jackets, Jerseys, T-shirts and Snapbacks.

2. What was your motivation for starting this company, and why this company (vintage sportswear)?

I’ve always had an obsession with all things old, antique and vintage. By combining this with my passion for sports, the idea for a vintage clothes store was born. Being a kid who grew up in the 90’s I know that for me personally any memorabilia with names like Michael Jordan, Ken Griffey Jnr or Wayne Gretzky on it will always remain priceless and remind me of happy memories I spent watching and following sports as a kid. I think the same could be said for most avid sports fans no matter when they grew up.

3. What would you say to someone who is thinking about stepping out into business?

Studying Business in High School and University gives you a great insight into the theoretical principles and philosophies behind running a small business. That being said, there is a big difference between studying and business in the real world. I think that it’s really important to link your passions with any ideas that you may have for future ventures. After speaking with a few experienced business people before I created Cloud9 there were 2 valuable insights that were consistent throughout. Firstly, there’s no time like the present! Obviously planning is important, but until you take that initial step it will only ever be a pipe dream. Also, don’t be afraid to make mistakes. One of the greatest entrepreneurs the world has ever seen, Sir Richard Branson, once said "You don't learn to walk by following rules. You learn by doing, and by falling over". The same applies to business, no risk – no reward.

4. What's your long term dream (both business and personal)?

I’ll be graduating from uni in July next year so I have plans to travel Europe and the US indefinitely! After I come back to Australia I’ll look at going into full-time work in a Marketing graduate role, preferably I’d like to specialise in online/digital marketing. I’m confident that one day I’ll create and operate a successful small business. I’ve met some very talented friends through uni and maybe one day we can link up again to produce some great results.

5. How does being connected to the local church affect the way you live your daily life?

Since moving to Sydney in 2005 I’ve been around C3 and have some made some great friends. I’ve learnt an incredible amount from the church and the people in it. I prefer to let my actions speak louder than my words and this has definitely had a profound impact on the way that I live day to day. I’d put a lot of what I’ve learnt down to being in Byers connect group, these guys are definitely some of the most inspirational people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting.
